Historically, artists creating works ranging from performative to still life have been subjected to rigid notions of permanence – what they brought to life could only exist for a finite amount of time in the physical world. Whether these works were created to intentionally play on the idea of permanence or not - existing to purposely evolve or vanish; their physical embodiments were always subject to the natural laws of change and the cycle from birth to decay. Photography was the first medium to subvert this reality of permanence in the physical world. A photograph immortalizes a moment shot through the eyes of the photographer, be it by chance, error, or intentional positioning – therefore, existing outside of the natural laws of permanence.

This exhibition features 16 SuperRare artists who explore themes of permanence in their work.

Description: "Spring Is Coming" - is a digital reimagination of Flemish still-life oil paintings. The animated artwork captures the profusion of accurate flower depictions - each element of the intricate bouquet is minutely arranged and precisely animated, revealing the lush variety in full bloom. Though captured in this fleeting state, the flowers will soon start to wilt and brown, serving as a reminder that all things must pass.

I work with flowers as I love the idea of how their life cycle goes hand in hand with the work. I find ways to manipulate and shape the way my audience looks at flowers. They have a purpose with a beginning and end. Just as the work once finished will melt away, without the capturing of the pieces with photography, the work may have never been seen.

Description: “Tell me about your city; Where I live, the city is covered in colours, so colourful it’s lurid. Such a wild place to be young, it's full of young people. You can easily get a job or make money just as easily as you could get swindled or scammed. It's populated by a lot of high income class citizens but full of lower income class citizens, it's relatively peaceful but noisy and rough at the same time. The city is so colourful it almost hurts to look at it, especially when it's closing hours and the roads are covered in vehicles and drowned in headlights, almost painted red with backlights. You see people zooming off on motorcycles to beat the traffic. The roads are so dangerous that sometimes I forget myself and enjoy the speed and the air blowing on my face. Other Times I vehemently warn the rider to slow down. So, what is your city like?”
